Bye Bye Fall, Hello Winter

I love my nyc but Winter is definitely not my favorite part. Sure the snow is pretty to look at, but walking around in it day in and day out is just not cute. So I bid farewell to one of my favorite seasons, beautiful Fall, and say hello to Winter.

I have to say my life has been saved by my new puffy coat with the puffy fur trim hood. My life was almost taken by said coat as well though. The hood is so awesome but you really can't see what's next to you. I stepped right in front of a car. Gotta be more careful, but glad for puffy coat. My friends were right, it has changed my whole outlook! Should have got a longer one though, cause my buns are freezing. But live and learn! Happy Winter to everyone. Christmas is just around the corner!

Making Wishes

I can't believe it has been a year since I last wrote. Life can get in the way of doing things we love if we let it. By way of quick update, I was all scheduled for what should be the last of my post breast cancer surgeries and I slipped and fell at the office, shattering my patella. What a way to start the year. I have learned to walk again, healed pretty well, and then finally had my last surgery on August 4. That's where the wish comes in. Friends, this is my 10th, yep, 10th surgery in 3 years. All of my time in DC has been peppered with health concerns and surgeries. I've been so focused on getting through it all and enduring it well. It has been a whirl wind! I feel the clouds are beginning to part and the winds are in my favor so I am going with it. Feels good to be on the other side of the storm. I have learned that this does not mean that new storms aren't ahead, but I am learning to enjoy the reprieve. :)

Peaks and Valleys

The last few days have been filled with ups and downs. Just as one friend walked out of my life, I gained a sister. Yes, that's right. Crazy as it is....I have a beautiful younger sister. Those of you that read my blog may have seen her comment. She found me and reached out. It's very exciting! We are now getting to know one another through emails....and we plan to meet in December when I go home for Christmas. So, there it is. It is true....when one door closes, another one opens. And dare I say, those that walk away from us often have no idea just how special we are. We are better off without them. But, those that search for us, and want to love us...those are usually the people that God wants in our lives.

How Will You Take Your Life Back?

"Today is the day I take my life back." - Rebekah Gregory. Seeing her come across the finish line of the Boston Marathon yesterday was so touching. Her statement resonated with me. It is the same reason I have signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon...to take my life back from breast cancer. To prove to myself that my best days are not behind me. This morning I was reminded that "taking my life back" is a daily commitment. Choices have to be made each and every day that effect the bottom line. So I ask you. How will you take your life back today?
