A Time To Reflect

It is hard to believe that just 2 years ago I came to nyc to study at Columbia.

Here I am over looking the City. I was so excited, so nervous, so happy, even a little sad to have left my family and friends in California....so many things.

Then 10 short months later....I was graduating from Columbia!

Now I have been out of Graduate school for a year now and working in foster care.....getting my bootie kicked by foster care....and I'm still excited, nervous, happy and even sometimes sad.

At milestones we tend to reflect and evaluate, which is what I have been doing a lot of lately. I have considered returning to school for a Psy. D. I have thought about moving home and working at a hospital in Pediatric Oncology. I have even considered (dare I saw) sticking with this foster care thing a little while longer.

I know I will find the path that is right for me.....but for now I am just so happy that many of my dreams came true in the last 2 years. What a blessing!!

  1. Zaneta,
I have no doubt you will figure out what is best in the bigger picture. I am so happy for you that you got to live your dream of studying and graduating from Columbia and working in New York City. You are amazing and I have missed you - but I am lucky to have found you through the world wide web.

  3. Zaneta I'm happy you have stepped out on faith to pursue your dreams. It's amazing what happens when we look up for strength and step out into the midst of the unknown relying solely on Him. You're from Cali! Pretty cool especially for me since our next family trip 2011 will be California, perhaps you can give me some tips of what would be worth seeing as the time draws nearer. And you're considering a PsyD--you go girl! I am enrolled to begin my PhD Oct 11th and looking so forward to being back in school and as you said pursuing my dreams. Life is truly amazing & one lesson I've learned... life is what you make it. So Zaneta continue to make it everything you ever hoped for, it's at your finger tips!

I got a J-O-B

Sunshine all around, folks. I got a J-O-B! Yesterday I accepted an offer from NY Foundling, a large social service agency in New York City. I will be in their foster care division in Brooklyn doing case management, court advocacy, investigations and parent/foster care family work. I am very excited! The agency is solid and the position will allow me to use my skills and grow as a professional. So, you guessed it, I am a real live social worker! Finally! Thank you to all of you who cheered for me, prayed for me, and kept me on track when I got discouraged. We did it!

Some of the Journey

Here I am getting ready to go to a gala for my new job. This was about a week into November 2011. I had no idea the journey I was about to embark on. My wonderful friend Erin came down to visit me and spend some time. It was wonderful to have her here! We had no idea the news I would hear less then 2 weeks later. I decided to cut my long hair before chemo so that it would not be as traumatic losing my hair. It was still extremely difficult, but at least I know I will have a cute little pixie option when my hair returns. The first day of chemotherapy. I had intensive treatments, 4 months, every 2 weeks, for 5 hours each time. I always was trying to keep the smile and imagine the poison they were pumping right into my heart as being what could save me life. During my final day of chemotherapy. I had made it this far! Next leg of my journey would be radiation treatment. Here I am with my radiation team on the final day, August 22, 2012. I was with these l...

Long hair...to be or not to be?

I am reaching out for your opinion. That's right, you! My hair has reached that awkward stage of the grow out...you know the one, girls. When it's not quite long, but not quite short. It's the time when most of us girls will just say, 'ah, forget it...I'm cutting it again.' So I thought I'd show pics of a really cute short cut, and kinda nice long one and ask what you think. This is a recent pic of me with my short hair. Cute, right? This is me not too long before I moved to New York. I think I will have bangs this time though..and more layers because my hair LOVES to curl in the New York humidity. So, take a second and let me know what you think. Should I keep it short, or let it grow out?
